GIS is a computerized mapping system that allows you to capture, store, analyze, and display geographic information.
What we are doing:
The City of Redmond is utilizing GIS software and Global Positioning System (GPS) technology to capture the locations of the city's utilities. The utilities consist of water, wastewater, and stormwater utilities as well as other facilities deemed important. Using engineering as-build drawings, CAD files, and field data the city's utilities are then digitized and integrated with other digital data for mapping and storage in a database. Important attributed data is collected for each utility allowing for accurate informational and spatial queries to be performed. This digital database allows the city to better manage, plan, maintain, and locate facilities helping to provide the residents of Redmond with the best services possible. |
